OUR MISSION:

"Our Toxic Hotspot Tracker aims to raise awareness and create opportunities to improve air quality and the health of Angelenos."

What is Toxic

Hotspot Map?

The objective of mapping toxic hotspots is crucial in the understanding and prevention of diseases such as breast cancer, asthma, metabolic and neurological disorders. By identifying areas with high levels of toxins and pollutants such as lead, VOCs, and Plasticizers researchers and public health officials can implement targeted interventions to reduce exposure and mitigate the risk of developing these serious health conditions.

Our Youth
Perspective

Youth Community Scientists, many of whom reside in areas affected by pollution from fires, heavy traffic, and aging refineries, offer firsthand accounts of the challenges they and their families face in their daily lives. These young individuals leverage their unique perspectives to advocate for tangible improvements within their communities. Youth Community Scientists exemplify the potential for grassroots initiatives to drive meaningful change.

Why is this
Important?

City "toxic hot spots" are areas with elevated levels of pollutants and hazardous substances such as heavy metals, hydrocarbons, glyphosate, and plasticizers due to industrial activity, poor waste management, heavy traffic, or historical contamination
